(Relatively) new lab member Dr Jordan Pederick – fresh from a PhD with John Bruning at U Adelaide – threw his hat in the ring at this year’s Sydney Protein Group Postdoc Prize event. In a field of five speakers giving talks on diverse topics, Jordan regaled the audience with a story of humans, fish, plastic and hormone receptors, seeking an understanding of the mechanisms through which BPAs and related chemicals might cause health issues – in both the humans and the fish.
The judges kept us in suspense for the longest time – until all the pizza had disappeared, but in the end Jordan got the nod as the winner. Congratulations Jordan – he pockets $500 to help attend the upcoming East Coast Protein Meeting (22-24 July) – and a speaking slot at the meeting too! So, see you at Coffs Harbour in July…
