Fionna and Rob’s Wedding Day

Impressively, Fionna managed to organize her wedding from the other side of the world, while postdoc-ing at the ETH in Zurich! Rob and her made what turned out to be an absolutely inspired choice of location – Rodd Island. Don’t be put off by the fact that it used to be a quarantine station! It is a pocket-sized National Park in the middle of Iron Cove bay – only about 100 m by 100 m – with a single building on it (insurance in case it rains!) and great grassy grounds with plenty of trees and 360-degree water views.

We arrived by water taxi and shared a great afternoon with Rob, Fionna and their families and other friends. The ceremony was very nicely done indeed, and – best of all – the food was yum-cha! What more could you want?! Needless to say, Fionna was gorgeous in a classic strapless number that had come from Switzerland with her (when you *really* don’t want the airline to mislay your baggage) and Rob was very smart in a suit and white tie. Ann was again to be spotted in her cheongsam – donned especially for Fionna – and we were treated to the sight of Amy (a lab member from way back) having chopped of her half-a-kilo of dreadlocks for a very sophisticated looking short cut. Chu Wai decided she couldn’t miss the day, so popped over from her new home in Dunedin for a quick 24-h visit…

A great day was had by all – especially Fionna and Rob!!
