New manuscript on Biorxiv

Sandra Hake, our collaborator with a strong interest in histone variants and chromatin in general, has uploaded her latest manuscript to Biorxiv - a paper that focuses on the function of the chromatin associated protein HMG20A. Hakimeh has put her protein interactions skills to help Sandra out, by dissecting the interaction between HMG20A and the NuRD complex, which Sandra observed in some proteomics discovery experiments. You can check it out here: https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2022.05.04.490592v1

April graduation!

Last week, we had one of the first live graduations we'd had for some time, and it was a bumper one - Angus, Marcus and Jen all graduated with their undergraduate degrees, as did Lou Irish from Ann's lab. So, it was all over to the old quad to congratulate them and grab a photo or two! Congratulations all - thoroughly deserved...

Ingrid becomes a mother….again!

Ingrid was as organized as usual, and gave birth to baby Scarlett at 7:20 am on April 9. Current reports are that Scarlett has not learned yet to cry, but communicates in a series of small toy-like squeaks - they can only hope that continues for some time... Ingrid, Scarlett - and Percy - are all doing well and no doubt girding their loins for an increased level of child care for the next 20 years or so...!

Have been off X for months but had to log in to see response to AF3. I am much less smart than the authors - but am I (and Erin) the only ones to think that the helical afros that it makes out of IDRs is totally weird? Am I missing something?

Amazing story from the lab down the corridor - @RezwanSidd working with Sandro Ataide and Ruth Hall in @SydneySOLES at @Sydney_Science - now they will be thrown into the gladiators' pit I suspect with the other protagonists that prowl this landscape! 🙂 Great piece of work!

Graduation March 2018

Graduation March 2018

Another successful graduation is in the books! This time around it was Ashley, Max, Grace, and Spencer graduating with their Hons. Even though the rain didn't dampen anyone's spirits, it did mess with our usual photoshoot and we only managed to capture Ashley and...

New lab baby!

New lab baby!

After 34 hours of labor and a helpful push from some halal KFC, Maryam and Hassan welcomed their first child yesterday! We can't wait to meet him and wish nothing but the best to their little family!

Congratulations Neil!

Congratulations Neil!

Congratulations are in order! Neil was selected as the Sydney Protein Group's ComBio Early Career Researcher speaker! He won a slot to give a talk at the meeting as well as $800 toward Opal card fare to go to the conference in October. The award is very...

Lorne Proteins 2018

Lorne Proteins 2018

Our structural biology contingent headed down to Lorne for this year's proteins meeting at the new Cumberland venue! Not only did the meeting have the stunning views and great talks that Lorne is known for, but Pathtech was giving out inflatable monkeys providing...

SOLES Ball 2017

SOLES Ball 2017

This was the first year of the SOLES ball (formerly known as the Amoeba ball). Inspired by its location (the rather ritzy Australian Museum), the theme was "Night at the Museum" and everyone got the "dress like an ancient Egyptian" memo. Here are a few photos of...

Graduation May 2017

Graduation May 2017

Today we celebrated 4 lab graduates! Dorothy graduated with her PhD, hard-earned and well deserved! Matt, Anthony, and Gabrielle all graduated with their Hons, again well deserved! Check out some of the photos from the celebrations!

Super-duper HSQC titration data

Super-duper HSQC titration data

Karishma has been busily recording HSQC spectra for a whole set of protein-peptide interactions we're looking at (let's see - there are 18 peptides and 6 proteins - so she has about 108 titrations to do if we go the whole hog). So far, a decent proportion of them...

Taylor Goes to New Zealand!

Taylor Goes to New Zealand!

Over the holiday shutdown period, Taylor jumped over the Tasman for her first New Zealand visit (in the 11th hour of her PhD of course). It was an 8 day solo adventure with a jam packed schedule. One night in Auckland, 2 days in Rotorua, a...
